If you have ever needed to copy a lot of software to floppy diskettes for distribution, you know what a pain it is trying to mix and match files of differing sizes to diskettes in such a way as to use as few of them as possible, filling them to their maximum capacity. The FloppyCopy suite of scripts was written for exactly this purpose, so users and User Group Disk Librarians have to think about this problem no more! After specifying a diskette density and a folder containing software, double-click on the "FloppyCopy" deskscript (cowboy on horseback). This script will distribute the software located in the source folder into one or more folders on the Desktop™ named appropriately "Disk 1", "DIsk 2", etc. until all the software has been distributed, consuming as few disks as is possible. Files that are too that are too big to fit on a disk are placed in a folder named "Files Too Big!".
Hardware/Software Requirements:
1. A copy of Userland Software's Frontier™ or Frontier Runtime™ v3.0.3 or later.
Distribution:
This Frontier™ Deskscript is part of a collection of such scripts created and distributed by Joe Cicinelli and the Arizona Macintosh Users Group (AMUG). The price and availability of this package is TBD.
Installation:
1. To install the FloppyCopy suite of scripts, double-click on the Install file in the FloppyCopy folder. If Frontier™ is not currently up and running, it will be launched automatcially during installation.
2. As the installation progresses, two dialog boxes like the one below will appear on the screen to notify you that Frontier verbs are being installed into the Runtime root for diskLib suite of scripts.
3 . Once the installation is complete, you will be notified with a dialog box like the one below. After the installation has been done, it will never need to be repeated with this version of Frontier™ again.
Using the Disk of the Month Suite of Deskscripts:
1. Before using the "FloppyCopy" deskscript, you must tell Frontier™ what the density of the diskettes is that you are planning to copy the files to (400K, 800K, or 1400K). You do this by double-clicking on the icon named "Set Disk Size…" and selecting one of the pushbuttons in the dialog box that is presented on the screen.
2. Next, double-click on the deskscript named "Select Source Folder…" to show Frontier™ where to look for files to distribue over the disks. Select the folder's name in the left side of the dialog box and then select its correspnding button in the lower right-hand corner.
3. Finally, double-click on the icon named "FloppyCopy" to begin organizing the files into folders on the Desktop. The folders will be named "Disk 1", "Disk 2", and so on.
Notes:
1. If you need to stop the script for some reason, switch into Frontier™ and press the command and period keys at the same time. This will immediately stop the execution of the script.
